My name is Sonia Convery and I am a grateful, yet surprised, breast cancer
survivor. Grateful to have beaten cancer but surprised that I got it in the first place. I was diagnosed at the age of 44, with no family history of breast cancer. I had been a vegetarian for over 20 years and considered myself pretty healthy, aside from a pesky diagnosis of Systemic Lupus a few years prior. I was shocked when I heard the words “you have cancer” – actually the words I heard were, “unfortunately your biopsy showed cancer cells.” Then, the doctor proceeded to go on and on about ports and tests and chemo and things that made no sense to me. I had to ask – “so does this mean I have breast cancer?” – I was so confused. The answer was yes, and with that started my sometimes terrifying, sometimes exhausting, and sometimes, believe it or not, humorous, journey through and beyond cancer.

3 and a half years after my initial diagnosis, I am proud to say that today I am cancer free. I have learned many valuable lessons and feel like I have gained more than I have lost from having breast cancer. I live in South Florida with my amazing partner of  20 years, Zetti, our two beautiful daughters, Jada and Kayla, my awesome Mom, one crazy dog and two even crazier cats.

Every night I used to pray that God would help me face my journey with courage, grace and humor. Now, I would like to try to pass on some of that courage, grace and humor to others who are facing their own journey with cancer or other serious illness. Thank you for checking out my site and I wish you all peace and hope.
