Some things I have learned

There are so many lessons I have learned from this crazy journey through and beyond Cancer.  Here are just a few:

  • I am stronger and braver than I ever dreamed I could be
  • Crying and having feelings of sadness, depression or anxiety does not mean I’m weak – it means I’m human.  These feelings are “normal” reactions to an “abnormal” and traumatic situation
  • The power of prayer really does work
  • Asking for help actually helps others as well – As a lifelong helper and caregiver myself, I was more comfortable helping others than asking others to help me.  What i realized was that by asking and allowing others to help me, I was helping them. Many of my family and friends felt helpless and wanted to do something, anything, to help when I was sick. By letting them help me,  they felt a sense of satisfaction that they were able to contribute to my recovery.
  • I have so much to be grateful for and need to remember this on a daily basis
  • I need to stay active and take a proactive role in my health and emotional well-being
  • Things will work themselves out -worrying about them will not make a difference one way or the other
  • I look fabulous bald
  • Wearing a wig in Florida is crazy hot – so it’s a good thing I look fabulous bald

Thank you for that post! You seem like a brave and positive person that appreciates everything. Congrats about that and good luck with everything! I’ll keep reminding myself of these points every now and then because it’s one thing to know them, and completely another to put them into practice 🙂
